Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: ne Wind Stength: 15 Surf / Sea State: flat in river lumpy at sea Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 25.79 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 26 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
The wind turned up a bit earlier today, just after lunch but the sun has
gone and it was just like being in Scotland again !!! We got a chance to
sail with the tide going out and low water meaning there was a chance of
some flatwater in the River Deben. Again the breeze was borderline so I had
to rig the 8.5 and after struggling upwind underpowered into the river the
water was lovely and flat but there was no wind :( I had several runs
without much success and the tide is very strong making getting back
difficult. With the sailors going okay in the open sea in more wind I decide
to head back and have a good mile run back for a snack break. Refreshed I
head for the flatwater again for one last try before the tide turns but the
only way I can decribe it ,it was like the wind was blowing straight
through the sail - there was no power at all in the wind :( I was talking
to a kiter mate in the river and he said he doesn't like this direction
because the wind is gutless!!! so it's not only me. Again I struggled to
get going in the flatwater - one day it will work !!! even though David
Coles was flying on his huge formula kit. I gave up with the flatwater as
the tide turned and had one more good mile run but then with the tide with
wind it was like beating both ways:( and it was difficult to sail broad as
you lost too much ground - so another fustrating day when it wasn't quite
windy enough.
